Privacy Policy

Overview

AstroCubic (the “operator”) explains how SkyWindow handles information. The app does not require an account or use advertising-identifier tracking or its own behavioral analytics SDK. Celestial positions and sky-obstruction calculations run on your device. Requests for weather, maps and obstruction data may send a selected position or query area to external providers. The operator does not run a separate server that automatically collects app usage or locations.

Location and sensor permissions

With your permission, latitude, longitude, accuracy and altitude are used for the observing position and height calculations. Compass and motion sensors help display sky direction. The app requests location access while in use and does not continuously record GPS travel routes in the background. You can select a map position or enter coordinates without granting current-location access. Permissions can be changed in iOS or iPadOS Settings.

Information stored on your device

The app may store your selected observing position and name, saved places, regional search history, observing time and height, display preferences, terrain and building data, and forecast caches locally. These records are not linked to an account. Stored information does not necessarily represent your current location or the latest conditions on site.

Weather, maps and obstruction requests

Apple WeatherKit receives the position and time for a forecast request. Apple Maps, search and address lookup may receive map regions, search terms, or selected and candidate coordinates. Observing-place recommendations may request forecasts and addresses for multiple candidate positions.

Public geographic data and optional connections

OpenStreetMap API and Overpass servers receive query areas and criteria for buildings, structures and nearby places. The app may currently use the private.coffee and overpass-api.de Overpass servers; these services can have different operators and policies. When VWorld is connected, query areas and API credentials are sent to VWorld. If required terrain data is missing, the app requests public terrain tiles hosted on AWS; tile identifiers indicate the queried area. Crediting bundled astronomy or geographic data does not mean your location is sent to every credited source.

Widgets and background behavior

The app and its widgets share the last observing calculation through shared storage on the same device, including the location name, coordinates, time, geometry and forecast information. Widgets may request updated forecasts for the saved position, but do not continuously track live GPS. The operating system controls update timing. Check the displayed location and saved timestamp.

External maps and support

When you choose directions, destination coordinates and a name may be passed to your selected map app or website. Kakao directions may also receive an available recent current position as the origin. Subsequent processing follows that service’s policy. Support emails may prefill the app and operating-system versions, but do not automatically attach coordinates, logs or credentials. If you send an email, the operator processes its content and reply address to handle your request. Please do not send sensitive information or API credentials.

Retention, deletion and your choices

Saved places and search history can be deleted in the app. Preferences may remain until changed or reset. Downloaded source building and obstruction caches are pruned based on age (currently seven days), and downloaded building data can be removed using the app’s deletion control. This is not a deletion deadline for all forecast, widget or preference data. User-entered VWorld credentials are stored in Keychain for use on this device only. Keychain items may survive app removal; remove them in the connection settings first. Removing the app deletes ordinary app storage, subject to operating-system backup and restoration behavior. Records held by external providers follow their own policies.

Tracking, advertising and technical information

The app contains no advertising SDK, its own behavioral analytics SDK or cross-app advertising tracking, and does not sell personal information or share it for advertising. Providers receiving internet requests may process technical information such as IP addresses and request times under their own policies, potentially on servers outside your country. Operating-system and App Store diagnostics may be processed by Apple according to your Apple settings and Apple’s policies, separately from app-operated analytics.
